Every time you open up a new credit card, you receive a new statement closing date tied with the card. While this particular date might work fine for you, there are many reasons why you might want to change the date. I personally like having all my credit cards closing on the same date as it just makes life easier.
Another reason, specifically for those who recently applied for the Southwest credit card, is that the statement closing date indicates when points will post to your Southwest account. Many people apply for the Southwest credit cards solely to earn the Southwest Companion Pass. If you want to earn the pass as early as possible in 2020, you might want to change your statement closing date as early in the month as possible. Once your January statement closes, your 60,000-80,000 points will post to your account assuming you met your minimum spend in that month. You are then on your way to earning the pass giving you close to two years with flying for free! Remember, starting Jan. 1, 2020 you’ll need to earn 125,000 qualifying points to earn the pass.
Changing Your Chase Statement Close Date
If you have a Chase credit card, it is quite simply to change your Chase statement closing date online. No need to call Chase or send them a secure message, you can do it yourself within two minutes.
Step 1
Sign into your Chase account and select your desired credit card account. All account will show up on the left-hand side of your screen.
Step 2
You’ll see your statement close date right above your available credit. If that date does not work for you, select the “Things you can do” drop down menu.
Step 3
From the drop-down menu, select Update settings & preferences –> Payment due date.
Step 4
Select a new due date for this particular account. You can pick anywhere between the 1st through the 28th of the month. Note: Southwest points post to your account approximately 2-3 business days after your statement closes. That means money spent in December after your December statement close date should not post until 2020 after your January statement close date.
You have now changed your Chase statement closing date!
Your accounts new statement close date has been adjusted and will not go into affect until one billing cycle. That means if you are looking to change your Southwest credit card closing date for better timing around the Southwest Companion Pass, change the date now.
