August 18, 2018 was a big day in the travel space — the Marriott and Starwood loyalty programs were merged and unfortunately it seems like the combined program has gone downhill ever since. Accounts aren’t properly showing accurate point balance, stays aren’t posting properly, and status is all over the place. Members of both programs have spent hours upon hours to get their accounts showing the correct information—some have had luck and other have just given up.

My husband has been a loyal Starwood member and was looking to earn Marriott Platinum status for 2019 via the legacy Starwood method—25 stays in 2019 will earn Platinum Elite status. Marriott still hasn’t manually updated account for those who earned status through the old ways (whether it is regular status or lifetime status), but my assumption is February 13th will be the magical date as that is when they will fully unite their programs and rename it the horribly decided Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program.

I just signed into my husbands Marriott account this morning and saw that a stay from last October was just posted!

I have no idea if Marriott is starting to actually post stays for all members accounts or if this was a one-off situation. We actually didn’t even call regarding this stay so it posted without us doing anything on our side. Of course my husband didn’t even realize this stay did not post, so we never called. Also seems like I will have to start managing his accounts better!

So definitely take a look at your account and see if any stays that you’ve been battling to get posted have actually in fact posted. Or, if you’ve still been working hard to get a particular stay posted, now might be a good time to bother Marriott again as it looks as if you might have better luck now.
