A few days ago I was alerted from a fellow blogger Delta Points that Club Carlson was handing out free night certificates to those that had the Club Carlson Visa credit card. This is a super nice offer from Club Carlson especially after their massive devaluation of the credit card a few months ago (they took away the 2nd free night benefit which was AMAZING!). The certificate will give you 1 free night at ANY Club Carlson hotel or resort WORLDWIDE between now and August 31, 2016. This means you have an entire year to use this free night with no exclusions!
From what I’ve read, people have been receiving letters in their mailbox or email letting them know about this free night. While I personally have received nothing, I did check my Club Carlson account this morning to see that a free night has been deposited into my account! So even if you received no notification you are most likely still in luck! I’ve read that only those that have or had a Club Carlson credit card are eligible.
Once you sign into your account on ClubCarlson.com go to “My Account” on the left-hand side of the page.
Once you scroll all the way down the page, you’ll see any “E-Certs” you have available. It’s called “Club Carlson Visa Global Free Night-August 2015”. If nothing appears and you believe you should be eligible, I suggest calling Club Carlson.
I whited out the code as they are unique per account, but that is the code you will use when making a reservation. When making a reservation, include “USBANKEC” in the promotional code field and your unique code given in the E-Cert in the “E-Cert Code” field.
You’ll then see all available hotels in the city you are looking to stay at. The hotel night will be 100% free, although if the hotel has a resort fee (only at a few properties), you might be required to pay that. E-certificates are capacity controlled (same availability as point redemption), but overall you should see good availability.
Enjoy your free night! Thank you Club Carlson and Visa!

“If nothing appears and you believe you should be eligible”
What would require you to be eligible? Just having the card?
Thanks!
No love for either of my Club Carlson accounts 🙁
Have the credit card, but none for me either.
Have had the card for 18 months and have paid the annual fee and put spend on it but I’ve received nothing via mail/email and nothing when I log into my Club Carlson account.
I don’t usually go in for conspiracy theories, but from reading the comments sections on several different blogs about this ecertificate, it does seem like all the bloggers are getting them and very few regular people.
That said, do you recommend calling club carlson or the number on the credit card to ask about it? And how about a little bit of investigative journalism on the part of a blogger or two, calling in to ask why they got one…
@BobBon – I wish Club Carlson’s marketing team knew I was a blogger and hooked me up when possible! Unfortunately though that is not the case. My entire family who is a Club Carlson Visa cardholder received the offer, which includes me, my husband, my mom, and my dad.
Well, I appreciate your response. This is, afterall, my favorite travel/deals blog.
Any chance of you calling up and saying something like “I got the certificate but my friend who also has the card didnt. What’s the deal?”
@BobBon – Thank you so much! More than happy to call today to inquire what the deal was with those targeted.
BobBon – I am a “regular” person and I did receive the ecertificate. I have had the card for about 15 months, and have put only one hotel stay on it this past year.
I also have the credit card — my wife too. None for either of us. 🙁 My annual fee is due too……and I’m going to cancel.
I was going to stick with them because of the 40K anniversary points, but if I end up not getting the e-cert I have decided I will cancel. I’ve seen even people that cancelled the card get the free night.
I haven’t received a letter and there is nothing in my account. I called yesterday about the issue and Club Carlson said they’d have a supervisor contact me within 48 hours about the issue. It’s been 24 hours and nothing yet, so it will be interesting to see what they say! I never complained about the free night going away, so I’m hearing that might have something to do with it, which is quite ridiculous!
I have a business and personal account, but ended up getting two certificates on my business account and none for my no-annual fee personal card account. I’m not sure why and how I got two certificates on my business account.
Can I use the redemption code for my personal account reservation, even though I rec’d it for the other account?
@Jay – I believe so. They seem to be just a unique code that you enter when making the reservation, so I do not see why not. Although I haven’t tried it myself.
I have not received the letter, the e-mail, or the automatic e-cert. I’m a cardholder and I put a decent amount of spend on the card. I suppose there are two possibilities:
1) They are rolling them out in batches. Given what I’ve seen of Club Carlson’s IT over the years, this is totally plausible. I’m happy to wait until my annual renewal comes up to see if I’ve gotten one.
2) They are targeting members. This would be colossally stupid. It’s hard enough to target members in an internet world where we all talk. But to remove the single benefit for which most people kept the card and then to kick some portion of your membership once their already down would really be asking for cancellations.
@Danny – I have no idea what the targeted requirements are. The four family members that have the card all got targeted. None of us ever use the card for everyday spend. Haven’t really used the card since we hit our minimum spend after applying for the card. However, we all did complain about the downgrade of the card earlier this summer. Not sure if that has something to do with it.
I got mine plus I got the 30k bonus points for my paid stay last weekend even though I never received the offer that you mentioned several months ago. I also received another 7500 Customer Service points for no reason though they sent me a actual letter saying that it will be posted
I have both cards, but got plenty of nothing so far.
Nothing for me either on both of my accounts (personal and business cc).
None for me:(
None here either.
I received the cert, plus 2 family members. We all applied for the card in April, right before bonus night was cancelled. No additional spend after hitting minimum spend. We each had a stay this year. We also complained about losing bonus award night and received extra points.
From reading many comments on multiple blogs, it sounds like that the VAST MAJORITY of people who got a global E-cert were previous complainers about devaluation. Last spring, most got the token points, a few got also an AF waived and now an e-cert. The squeaking wheel gets the grease!
I called/wrote and here is what they said
“Thank you for taking the time to write.
Club Carlson Visa Cardholders will receive the Free Night E-Cert if:
A minimum of US $10,000 has been charged on the Account in the immediately prior 12-month period AND The annual fee for the Account is paid on or before the due date printed on the Account statement in which the annual fee is billed.
he E-Cert will be available to cardholders approximately 6-8 weeks after payment of the annual renewal fee.
note the AND
They are confusing the free anniversary e-certificate upon a $10,000 spend good only at US properties (the recent post-devaluation perk) with a freebie global e-certificate they’ve deposited into previous complainers accounts. No spend was really required, just devaluation complaints in some form or fashion back in the spring.
I did not complain about the loss of bonus night when it first occurred. But I did complain about it when the recent renewal of a card came up. I thought that they may waive the annual fee. I had a personal and a business card. They offered nothing and closed the account quickly. So I cancelled that card. I had used the card up to that point. I have one card left and do not use it due to never getting any extra when others have gotten a lot. This time around, again No free cert for me. I will close final card or continue to keep but never use it again. But not going back to using the card regularly just because of how I have been treated more poorly than others.
