With the help of four inches of snow and cold enough weather for the snow guns to go full blast, many Colorado resorts are opening earlier than expected. Many Colorado resorts have been fighting to be the first mountain of the season to open and it looks like we have a winner… Arapahoe Basin (otherwise known as A-Basin) opened their resort today. Although skiing was limited to just two hours, lift tickets were pretty cheap at just $15. For those looking to go this weekend, you’ll be able to jump on the Black Mountain Express lift and ski down the High Noon run or visit the Terrain park.

A-Basin beat the other mountains to opening day on Oct. 11th.

If you are interested in other Colorado ski mountains, Keystone is not far beyond and will open tomorrow morning, Saturday Oct. 12. This is actually the earliest opening day for the mountain in over 20 years. (Keystone was really hoping that they could win the title of first resort opening). Loveland currently doesn’t have a set opening date scheduled yet, but it could be as early as next week. For those anxiously awaiting the 2019 / 2020 ski season, you can strap on your skis and starting hitting the slopes pronto.

Purchase your season pass now!

With Arapahoe Basin now part of the Ikon Pass and Mountain Collective Pass, you’ll want to purchase your pass soon. Although their are many ways to get cheap or even free lift tickets for the winter season, a season pass is sometimes the way to go. The Ikon Pass will increase in price on Oct. 17, 2019 while the Mountain Collective Pass will sell into it is sold out.

If you prefer skiing at Keystone, they are on the Epic Pass, and those prices are set to increase in just two days on Oct. 13, 2019. At Keystone, kids 12 and under even ski for free when you stay 2+ nights at partner hotel. This even includes using points at the Hyatt Place Keystone which is only costs 15,000 points a night!

Although I live in Boston and I am not able to hit the slopes this weekend, I am pretty excited for this ski season to officially start. I already have one trip booked for out west and there might be more on the horizon. Since I purchased the Epic Pass, any extra ski days will be “free”.

What is your ski strategy for the winter? Will you be skiing this weekend?
