This weekend is the Frequent Traveler University in Washington, DC. While I will not be there, I just read on the Magic of Miles blog that there is still space available for those who are interested. It is a good opportunity for those just getting into the points and miles world to learn more. The cost of the event is $149 and includes a holiday part tonight, seminars on Saturday and Sunday, and breakfast and lunch both days. Although sign up using promotion code MILEPOINT and you’ll save $10.
One of the biggest perks of the event is that you will get complimentary Hyatt Platinum status valid through February 29, 2015. If you already have Hyatt status you are able to gift it to someone if you’d like. Now, even if you are not able to attend the event, you are still able to sign up and receive the status as a no-show. Status will post to your account within 4-6 weeks.
While Hyatt Platinum status is not one of the best mid-tier levels, it can still provide you some benefits. You’ll get a 15% bonus on all points earned, the potential of a room upgrade, free WiFi, 2pm late check-out, and 20% off the daily rate on and standard room (currently only available through 2014, but might be extended for next year as well). I personally wouldn’t pay $139 (after the $10 code) for Hyatt Platinum status as I do not think I’ll get enough perks out of it over the next year, but depending on your travel patterns you might be beneficial for you.
I have no affiliation with this conference, although I have attended/participated on panels in the past. For the most part, I believe folks find it beneficial.
