Post #3 compliments of Mr. Deals…

Given that we just had Thanksgiving and many of you may be in the midst of holiday travel I thought I’d do a quick post on something I’m thankful for. My wife, Mrs. Deals, has definitely influenced me over the years on how I pay attention to deals and how to best utilize points, miles, rewards, etc.  I guess it couldn’t hurt to give thanks to her right?

As I continue to write these posts you may hear me rant a bit about the things she has me do just for a good deal.  For example, in future posts you might hear about how she will make me check in and check out while I’m on business trips, spend countless minutes on the phone with customer service, buy lots of stuff we’ll never need/use just for a point bonus, shop at specific places based on a reward, and even go return something and rebuy it to save a few cents.  But at the end of the day, I can rant as much as I want, but there is a lot of good that comes out of it.

I’m thankful for all of the vacations this allows us to go on.  Utilizing points and miles allows us to spend more on sightseeing and activities wherever we go.  It was also pretty sweet getting upgraded to the presidential suite at the Hyatt in Bali.  We definitely didn’t look like we belonged there!

Most of all I have to give thanks to Mrs. Deals because when it comes to travel and deals, I really don’t have to do much!  As many of my friends and readers can attest to, when you tell Mrs. Deals you want to go somewhere, need a good travel rewards card, or just ask for advice on planning a trip, you don’t just get a quick response but you get a novel!  For example, a co-worker is planning his honeymoon right now.  We were out having some drinks and Mrs. Deals mentioned that she’d be happy to help with the planning since we had been to some of the destinations.  He was expecting a quick synopsis of the trip, but boy was he surprised when he got a 2000+ word email outlining everything from how much a Tuk Tuk driver can cost to a suggestion to alter their itinerary so that it worked out better from a flight standpoint.  That’s just pure passion folks!

Mrs. Deals, this Thanksgiving I give thanks to you.  As crazy as you are and as much as I may give you a hard time about this stuff, I do love it.  I still don’t agree that Black Friday is worth it at all.  I’d rather be sleeping.

Hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving!
