Delta just announced a new non-stop route between Boston and Miami. Since I am Boston-based, this is great news for me! But it is actually better news for those who have yet to book their December school break vacation! This new route starts Dec. 21, 2019, which is the Saturday right after school ends for winter break.

For just 6,500 Delta SkyMiles or $138.30 (both are in basic economy), you can get out of the Boston weather and head down to sunny Florida on potentially one of the most peak flying days of the year. This is an amazing deal!

Or, just $138.30 for a paid fare.

Since both are economy basic fares, you can always spend a little bit more for a main cabin fare which will get you a seat assignment and allow you to bring on checked luggage for no extra fee. You are looking at either 9,000 Delta SkyMiles or $168.30.

Just to compare to other airlines…

On American Airlines you’d spend $559 per passenger for their least expensive non-stop route (or 50,000 miles one way)

And JetBlue would cost you slightly less at $531 per passenger, but you’d be flying into Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), not Miami.

Overall…

This is a unicorn in the travel world. One of those  definitely is one of those book now situations. Then sleep on it and decide tomorrow. With Delta you can always cancel within 24 hours of booking (whether it is on points or miles). I wouldn’t be surprised if fares were at least double the price (at a minimum) tomorrow.

Remember, if you do not have Delta miles in your account, you can always transfer from either your American Express Membership Reward account or Chase Ultimate Reward account.

Enjoy Florida!
