Discounted 7-Day and Annual Pass with CitiBike in NYC

Earlier this month I wrote about about the Citi Bike program where they have lined many streets in Manhattan with shared bikes for rent. In many areas of town bike lanes have also started to be implemented, so they are really trying to promote biking around the city. When I initially wrote about this program I mentioned that if you have a MasterCard credit card you can get a free 24-hour access pass at any Citi Bike station kiosk in NYC. This promotion is still valid and expires October 31, 2013 – you can read more about it in this prior blog post.

However, for those without a MasterCard or looking for a discount on a 7-day pass or yearly pass, the deal-a-day site Gilt City is offering the following:

  • 7-Day Access Pass: $16 (normally $27)
  • Annual Membership: $50 (normally $100)

Keep in mind that this is not a bike program to cruise around NYC for the day. There are caps on how long you can take the bike out for before you are charged an “overtime fee”. Here are the restrictions/fees:

  • 7-day pass: Must return the bike to a kiosk within 30 minutes. If you do not return the bike to a kiosk within the 30 minute time period you will then be charged $4 for the second half hour, $13 for the third half hour, and $12 for every half hour after that.
  • Annual membership: Must return the bike to a kiosk within 45 minutes. If you do not return the bike to a kiosk within the 45 minute time period you will then be charged $2.50 for the next half hour and $9 for every half hour after that.

However, with both programs you can dock your bike at a kiosk and then take it right back out and your time will re-set. You can learn more about pricing here.

For those looking to bike to work the annual membership is great! This eliminates the need to keep a bike in your cramped apartment and save on commuting cost. It is also beneficial for those who visit NYC often and would prefer to bike to different locations around time instead of venturing on the subway or dealing with a taxi.

Thanks to Michael W Travels for sharing this deal!

Hi, dear DWL

I was recently thinking of transferring my savings out from my BOA account and apply a BankDirect account. I did read your June’s post about it and it helped a lot. So do you know how to deposited my money into this online bank? By wire transfer or check deposit? Please let me know if you have any suggestions on doing this. I have about 25K. I appreciate your help. Also I need your refer link. ^_^

What an awesome offer! Thank you DWL! I’ve been a member since May and am a fan of the program. Even though I’m a member already, I still took advantage of this deal and bought a voucher since it expires October 2014!
