American is running a promotion through their online shopping portal where you can earn up to 1,500 miles by taking an extra minute and finding your online retailer through their site first. The requirements to earn these bonus miles is actually extremely easy so you should be able to earn these miles with no problem! You need to make three separate purchases of $50 or more through their portal to earn the 1,500 bonus miles – pretty simple! This promotion runs through April 14, 2017.
For those not familiar with an online shopping portal, essentially you go through the shopping portal first (in this case American’s), search for your online merchant, and you’ll then be taken directly to that merchants online website. At that point, you’ll shop how you normally would as if you went to the merchants site to begin with. It literally takes an extra minute and allows you to earn points or miles on the way. The bonus described above is for cumulative spend and doesn’t need to be in a single transaction.
Enjoy your bonus points!

Seems like you might be a bit late to the party
@Mark – The date has been updated, thanks for pointing that out.
“Literally” an extra minute? Really? Do you understand the meaning of the word literal? That means it would take exactly 60 seconds every time to be literal. Why does eveyone misuse and overuse this word so?
But regardless. thanks for the heads up. I didn’t see this one anywhere.
If you are slow on a keyboard, or dim-witted it might indeed take more than a minute. For the average user, I would say that a literal minute would be accurate. There should be a comma after “regardless,” not a period. Also I believe “heads up” requires quotation marks.
Randy, obviously you do not know the definition of the word “literal”. I won’t resort to the 3rd grade name calling in which you engage, but suffice to say you need to buy a dictionary.
Jen, your article seems to suggest that a customer will receive a 500 bonus per $50 purchase, up to 1500 bonus miles for 3 purchases. If I’m reading the AA offer page correctly, it seems to indicate in the terms/conditions that “at least 3” purchases must be made of greater than $50 or one receives no bonus whatsoever. Yes/no?
@Lance – Thanks so much for pointing that out. I took a quick look initially, and now when I look back you are right. So sorry about that, it has been a long week of little sleep!
If you use Uber regularly, good way is to buy $50 uber gift card 3 times at GameStop. So you earn 150 points from credit card, 450 points from aa shopping then 1500 bonus miles.
If you don’t have Uber yet, sign up with invite code uberGWTTW to get up to $15 off your first ride.
