Earn Airline Miles Booking Hotels Through Rocketmiles

Rocketmiles is a third-party hotel reservation site were you earn airline miles for your stay. While they do not have too many hotels on their site, if you are able to book through them, you can earn thousands of airline miles. The one caveat is that since you are booking your hotel stay through a third-party site typically you will not earn hotel points (although sometimes it slips through the cracks and you will – this is the case when booking through all third-party hotel sites).

Participating airlines include: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, Ethiad, AirFrance/KLM, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue, United, US Airways, and Virgin America.

Hotel rates are the same as the best available rate if you were to book directly with the hotel. However, this dosen’t account for other discounts – AAA, Corporate Rates, Specials, etc. So ALWAYS ensure that you are getting the best rate possible. And also calculate out what you’d prefer – the airline miles or the hotel points. Rocketmiles states that you’ll earn stays/nights towards status with the hotel (assuming they have a loyalty program), but since this is a third-party site, there is no guarentee. You’d have to call the hotel and ask.

Two day double miles promotion

For the next two days (through October 4, 2013) you will earn double miles on all hotel reservations booked for the month of October. I looked up hotels in NYC and saw that I could earn anywhere between 2,000 and 10,000 miles for a one-night stay.

For example, I searched a random date in October and saw that for the Hyatt Wall Street I can earn 10,000 airline miles of my choice for a one-night stay. I compared the rate to the Hyatt website and did see that it was the same as the best available rate, however, there is a cheaper pre-paid rate and a special “Good Morning” rate with Hyatt. It is about $40 cheaper, so you need to calculate what you’d prefer, a cheaper rate (with the hotel points) or the miles. In this scenario I’d personally book directly through Hyatt, but this is not the case always. With the non-chain hotels you’ll probably get the same exact rate when booking through Rocketmiles.

You can sign up for Rocketmiles here and earn 1,000 miles as a signup bonus after completing your first reservation. This is my referral link, but feel free to paste yours in the comments section. I am not 100% sure though if you book through the 2x miles October promo if you’ll receive the bonus 1,000 miles as well.

Earning this number of airlines miles for a reservation is amazing, so I highly suggest looking into it for your next hotel booking. Just be sure you are getting the best (or equivalent rate) and calculate out if the miles is better than the hotel points you might be missing out on.

Anyone have any luck getting a great rate with a lot of miles tacked on?!
