Frontier has always been one of the more flexible airlines when it comes to change fees and now they are becoming even more customer friendly. Just today, Frontier announced that if you change your ticket at least 60 days in advance, you will be charged no change fees. That is correct — $0 to change your flight to another flight. (Although if the new flight cost more, of course you’ll be on the hook for the price difference). Up until now, you could always change your flight for no fee, but it had to be 90 days out. With Frontier having such a short booking window, those extra 30 days is a nice enhancement.

Currently, the only airline with truly no change fee is Southwest, but Frontier is coming in second place.

With the announcement of a better no change fee policy, they also altered their fees if you are within that 60 day time period. And unfortunately, for the worse. Now, if you change your flight between 14 and 59 days prior to your departure date, you’ll be charged a $79 change fee instead of the previous $49 fee. Flights changed within 13 days of your departure will still be charged the same $119 fee. (The higher fee is for tickets purchased before Sept. 13).

Personally, I’d prefer a $0 change fee 60+ days out (over the previous 90+ days out) and then a slightly higher change fee for the 14-59 day mark. If you compare to other airlines, you’ll notice that the overall change fees regardless of the fee charged is still much less than the competition.

Overall…

I am truly glad to see an airline changing their rules to be more in the customers favor. This is huge for families as well since sometimes changing a flight for a family of four can be astronomically expensive. Frontier has definitely been on a high lately with many of their promotions, including Kids Fly Free and Friends Fly Free and adding this new change to the mix is really making me like them a whole lot more.

Does this include cancel also? Just so that its clear – if you CANCEL a $50 flight 70 days in advance, you get $50 back on your credit card used or just as travel funds that you must use within a year or so?
