Luckily, Hilton is only changing the categories of 39 of their hotels this year!! This is great news compared to the massive massacre we received last year where Hilton revamped their entire award chart negatively. This change will take place on April 15, 2014, so make sure to book your award night prior to this date for any hotels moving up a category.
There are 14 hotels going down a category and 25 hotels going up a category. This makes up a very minimal percentage of their entire portfolio, and the ones listed do not seem to be the desired hotels. You can check out this site to see the list of hotels moving up and down.
I am actually happy to see that there are three hotels in Barcelona that are going down a category or two! For hotels going up, it seems like the suburbs of Chicago and the West Palm airport got hit the hardest.
Going forward, however, Hilton has announced they will no longer have annual reconsideration of hotel categories (as they have done in the past along with all the other chains), but will re-categorize hotels on an as needed basis.

I wish Hilton would have more cash and points availability. Those are the best deals IMO. I’m currently staying at the Copenhagen Airport Hilton and got a “double upgrade” to the Executive Floor with complimentary lounge access. #hiltongold
@grant – I agree!
