Unlike some other hotel chains, the status you earn at Hilton doesn’t expire until March 31st. Most other chains expire February 28th! So for those that had Hilton status but were not able to maintain the status, you might see that you’ll be earning a new (and lower) status soon.
My husband had Diamond status due to a status match, but since he didn’t end up clocking any stays at a Hilton property last year he is being demoted to Silver status. While this lower status doesn’t really matter for him (I still have Diamond status and he never stays at Hilton properties for business travel), he did receive an email from Hilton giving him the opportunity to take advantage of a status match opportunity. The offer allows him to receive the matched status for the next 90 days. If he wants to keep the status through March 31, 2019, within that same 90 day period he’ll then need to complete 4 stays for Gold status and 8 stays for Diamond status. You’ll need to complete the number of stays based on the status you were matched to. So if you are only able to match to Gold status, completing 8 stays will not give you Diamond status. And if you were matched to Diamond status, if you are only able to complete 4 stays, you will not receive Gold status. You can learn more about the offer here.
The terms make it seem like this is a targeted offer as it states “Offer is valid for recipient only. Invitation and offer is non-transferable and status matches cannot be bought or sold.” However, there is a generic landing page for the offer, so if you did not receive the email (or are one who commonly deletes emails and has no idea if you received it or not), you can attempt to get the matched status, there is just no guarantee they’ll honor it.
The terms also do not state what status at another chain will get you at Hilton, but based on previous status match opportunities, this is what should work:
- Hilton Gold = SPG Gold, Marriott Gold, Ritz-Carlton Gold, Hyatt Platinum, IHG Platinum Elite, Club Carlson Gold
- Hilton Diamond = SPG Platinum, Marriott Platinum, Ritz-Carlton Platinum, Hyatt Diamond, IHG Spire Elite, Club Carlson Concierge
Hilton status is one of my favorite statuses since you receive free breakfast even as a Gold. So if you have mid or top tier status at another hotel chain, I highly recommend trying to take advantage of this offer, assuming you have a Hilton stay coming up within the next 90 days, or will be able to complete 4 or 8 stays in the next 90 days and extend your status.
It does not state how long this offer is good for, but I assume through the end of the month. If you are eligible for this offer, your new status will be updated in your Hilton account within 5 business days.
