Hilton Status Match, For Some!

This post may contain affiliate links from our advertising partners, such as American Express. Read my Advertiser Disclosure policy here. Additionally, some of the offers on this page may no longer be available through Deals We Like.

Unlike some other hotel chains, the status you earn at Hilton doesn’t expire until March 31st. Most other chains expire February 28th! So for those that had Hilton status but were not able to maintain the status, you might see that you’ll be earning a new (and lower) status soon.

My husband had Diamond status due to a status match, but since he didn’t end up clocking any stays at a Hilton property last year he is being demoted to Silver status. While this lower status doesn’t really matter for him (I still have Diamond status and he never stays at Hilton properties for business travel), he did receive an email from Hilton giving him the opportunity to take advantage of a status match opportunity. The offer allows him to receive the matched status for the next 90 days. If he wants to keep the status through March 31, 2019, within that same 90 day period he’ll then need to complete 4 stays for Gold status and 8 stays for Diamond status. You’ll need to complete the number of stays based on the status you were matched to. So if you are only able to match to Gold status, completing 8 stays will not give you Diamond status. And if you were matched to Diamond status, if you are only able to complete 4 stays, you will not receive Gold status. You can learn more about the offer here.

The terms make it seem like this is a targeted offer as it states “Offer is valid for recipient only. Invitation and offer is non-transferable and status matches cannot be bought or sold.” However, there is a generic landing page for the offer, so if you did not receive the email (or are one who commonly deletes emails and has no idea if you received it or not), you can attempt to get the matched status, there is just no guarantee they’ll honor it.

The terms also do not state what status at another chain will get you at Hilton, but based on previous status match opportunities, this is what should work:

  • Hilton Gold = SPG Gold, Marriott Gold, Ritz-Carlton Gold, Hyatt Platinum, IHG Platinum Elite, Club Carlson Gold
  • Hilton Diamond = SPG Platinum, Marriott Platinum, Ritz-Carlton Platinum, Hyatt Diamond, IHG Spire Elite, Club Carlson Concierge

Hilton status is one of my favorite statuses since you receive free breakfast even as a Gold. So if you have mid or top tier status at another hotel chain, I highly recommend trying to take advantage of this offer, assuming you have a Hilton stay coming up within the next 90 days, or will be able to complete 4 or 8 stays in the next 90 days and extend your status.

It does not state how long this offer is good for, but I assume through the end of the month. If you are eligible for this offer, your new status will be updated in your Hilton account within 5 business days.

I also got this same offer to extend my Diamond status. I noticed that with the new changes they are making is that if you can extend this and get Diamond with the 8 stays the new Hilton Honors changes going into effect in April would mean that you will likely get at least 2 years out of this. The reason I say this is with the new rules if you don’t re-qualify with the 30 stays/60 nights they will extend your status for another year (one time). So if you don’t re-qualify on stays or nights by March 2018… Read more »

I matched to Hilton Diamond last year. I was targeted for the promotion you mentioned. I sent in my IHG Platinum status a few days ago. I just received an email that I’ve been matched to Diamond if I complete 8 stays in the next 90 days or Gold if I complete 4-7 stays.

I am an existing Platinum member with Marriott. I decided to attempt to try Hilton and followed through with this offer. My request was condescendingly denied. Last year when I attempted a status match I needed to book 8 rooms for 2 weeks. They couldn’t get it together fast enough and I booked the room the day before this status trial was started. I haven’t used them since. My girlfriend really likes their properties and I went back to try again for her. Unfortunately this is the kind of customer service I have come to expect from Hilton. A few… Read more »
