United is currently offering a promotion where you’ll earn X number of bonus points based on the amount of money you spend with the airline between now and November 30, 2016. For those that have some high ticket priced flights over the next 6 months, this could work out very well for you! This does seem like a targeted promotion although everyone in my family was able to register. Between the 6 family member accounts I checked, we were all eligible to earn up to 40,000 or 50,000 bonus points.
50,000 Point Promotion:
Earn 10,000 bonus miles after you spend $500, another 15,000 bonus miles after $1,000 total spend, and another 25,000 bonus miles after $2,500 total spend. So if you are looking to spend $2,500 over the next 6 months with United, this could result in 50,000 bonus points!
40,000 Point Promotion:
Earn 8,000 bonus miles after you spend $500, another 12,000 bonus miles after $1,000 total spend, and another 20,000 bonus miles after $2,000 total spend. So if you are looking to spend $2,000 over the next 6 months with United, this could result in 40,000 bonus points!
For those that travel on business, you’ll probably be able to hit this in no time! I know when I used to fly to Arkansas on a weekly basis, I would have been able to hit this in approximately 3 weeks!
Check To See Your Promotion
As I mentioned above, this is a targeted offer so you’ll need to check to see which promotion (if any) you are eligible for. You can check here and just enter your United number. None of my family member hardly fly United, so there didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason on which offer we were targeted for. There also might be additional offers available for select accounts.
Promotion Terms
This offer runs between now and November 30, 2016, BUT… you MUST register for this promotion PRIOR to booking travel. That means flights that are booked or flown prior to registration will count. I personally hate when they exclude previously booked travel from promotions, but I guess it is what it is. I recommend registering NOW even if you have no idea if you’ll fly United or not.
Additionally, only flights operated by United and United Express will count towards this promotion. Even if you booked a flight through United, but it is on a partner airline, it will not count. And lastly, the U.S. Federal Transportation tax that you spend on the flight (which is baked into the fare price), will NOT count towards meeting the minimum spend threshold. You’ll need to look at the base fare to see the price that will count.
For those that are able to take advantage of this potentially lucrative promotion, enjoy!
Thanks to Mommy Points for letting me know of this promotion.

Interesting. Your example had spend all under $2500 for around 10x the points – my start was $22,000!! (no joke) for 54,000 miles – was the lowest offer! Guess they are not targeting me with this promotion! (I nearly fell off of my computer!!)
I got offer to get up to 106,000 miles but takes a lot of spend. 2000 dollars 21000 points. 4000 dollars 32000 more points. 7500 dollars 53000 more points. Wish it counted to the flights I’ve already book flights for this year. :). But I already purchase discounted flights to Dublin and Munich and discount worth more than any points.
My requirements are $24,000 spend for 19k miles, $25,000 for 39k more, and $26,000 for 65k more. I’ve already spent around $12,000 this year so it’s unfortunate that I cannot count that. I have been a 1K for the past 4 years so I think they know I’m ‘locked in’ and therefore my offer is very poor. I hope the rest of you have had better luck!
