This past year Hyatt has announced a slew of new hotels they are opening in the next few years. This is great news for those loyal to the Hyatt brand and looking to redeem some saved Hyatt points. One exciting hotel is the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo which is accepting reservations (paid and points) for December 20, 2013 and beyond. Rates are definitely not on the cheap side for Costa Rica as the cheapest rate I found for the winter is $500/night. While this is a category 6 hotel requiring 22,000 points per night, due to the expensive hotel price it is a great place to redeem points. Free nights are even available over Christmas week when room rates are going for about $700/night!
Description taken right from the site:
“Nestled in a location that is second to none, where the Gulf of Papagayo meets the sapphire blue waters of Culebra Bay, Andaz Peninsula Papagayo will arrive to personify Costa Rica’s “Pura Vida” (pure life) expression, an extension of the native spirit of the country. The design concept of Andaz Peninsula Papagayo by Costa Rican architect Ronald Zurcher translates the healthy and poetic integration of men and nature, with rooms that make you feel you belong to this breathtaking setting and buildings created to the images of creatures of the jungle – a perfect statement for the acclaimed Andaz personality and style.
Scheduled to open during December 2013, the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo will feature 153 Deluxe rooms, including 21 Suites, 9 Spa treatment rooms, unique concept-restaurants with quiet and privileged views of the sea and forest, and 4 meeting rooms. A vibrant, stylish and indigenous lifestyle resort experience to welcome your personal style.”
The hotel is currently offering a special which includes (check out details here):
- Stay 4 nights and get 1 night free
- $150 resort credit per stay
- 5,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points per stay
- Upgrade upon availability at check-in
If you are looking to stay 5 nights this could be a great option, just make sure to check out all rates to ensure it is the cheapest option.
I actually have never been to Costa Rica, although it has been top on my places to go for awhile. This resort is only 20 minutes away from Liberia airport. While San Jose (SJO) airport is the main airport in Costa Rica, there are many direct flights form the US to Liberia. JetBlue flies direct from JFK, United direct from Houston, Delta direct from Atlanta, and American Airlines direct from Dallas and Miami.

I stayed at the Hilton Papagayo earlier this year. The area is nice and very convenient to the airport, but the Hilton was tired and I wouldn’t return to that resort.
This will be a great addition to the area!
Check out the new Marriott Autograph collection property Hotel Punta Islita. Slightly further off the beaten track, but may have more “pura vida” than the Andaz.
