Hyatt Baha Mar Honoring 15,000 Point Reservations!

Last week I announced that the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar in the Bahamas was finally taking reservations for their new opening date at the end of the May. And it really is opening this time! At the time, only paid reservations were available and you could not use your points. The hotel was slotting for a category 5 reservation, so 20,000 points were night. When the hotel was first taking reservations 2 years back, it was actually slatted as a category 4 hotel, but quickly went up to a category 5. The hotel never ended up opening and all of those reservations got quickly and folks were compensated.

Yesterday, blogger MommyPoints wrote that point reservations were available! And, it was appearing as only 15,000 points per night were required for a free night! When you went through the process, it should 15,000 points the entire time. However, after the reservation was made, if you looked at your account activity, it should that 20,000 points per night were deducted instead. At 15,000 points per night, this was a great usage of Hyatt points, so I went ahead and made a possible reservation.

I made a reservation for 7 nights when it was showing 15,000 points per night.

My account activity page then showed 140,000 points, which is 20,000 points per night.

I reached out to the Hyatt Twitter team letting them know that although the reservation page and my confirmation page showed 15,000 points per night, it actually took out 20,000 points per night. They let me know they’d look into it and get back to me this morning. Well, I woke up to a nice Twitter message from them letting me know that they’ve credited the difference of points back into my account – 35,000 points in total for my reservation.

I am extremely impressed with Hyatt for honoring the category 4 points requirement. I personally thought they’d get back to me explaining that it was a glitch, extending an apology, and say I can cancel my reservation if I want, but it is 20,000 points per night.

So, if you were able to grab a reservation yesterday at the 15,000 points requirement, I highly suggest reaching out to Hyatt to see if they are able to credit the difference in points. Unfortunately, while the hotel is still showing 15,000 points per night when reserving a room, it won’t actually confirm the reservation for you.

Just booked through the Hyatt app and it confirmed. 120k removed though. I contacted Hyatt Twitter and they initially declined me, but I sent all the screen shots showing 15,000 instead of 20,000 so they refunded me 30,000.

I wonder what would happen if you had the points for 15k per night but not 20k per night. Would they just cancel your res?
