A few months ago, Hyatt announced a great promotion to earn your way to status quite quickly. Since most travelers are sitting home right now and earning status through the traditional method is challenging, this offer was quite a boost and made earning status actually obtainable from the couch.
Although Hyatt will extend your current status another year, many desire to earn an even higher status or those desired milestone benefits. Typically, those with the World of Hyatt Credit Card earn 2 nights towards status for every $5,000 spent on the card. However, during the months of April, May and June (in 2020), they upped that bonus where you’d instead earn 3 nights.
For me, it meant I used my Hyatt credit card almost exclusively. I put many large expenses on my card and just a few days ago — two weeks after the promotion ended — those bonus points hit my account, allowing me to cross over the 60-night threshold. In World of Hyatt terms, 60 nights secures Globalist status (although mine was already extended), awards a category 7 free night certificate and extends two more suite upgrades.
For those of you who also used your Hyatt credit card during this three-month timeframe, you might be pleasantly surprised to see a new status or milestone awards in your account. Hopefully, we will continue to see more opportunities to earn more nights throughout the year.
Earn 10 nights towards status
Now, if you do not have the World of Hyatt Credit Card, but your trying to earn Hyatt status, you can still get a boost with a different promotion. Members who apply for the card between April 15 and August 31, 2020 will receive 10 nights towards status. Typically, cardholders earn 5 nights yearly, so this is double the offer. This promotion is just for this particular year, so starting in 2021, you’ll be back down to earning the regular 5 nights towards status.
Although the World of Hyatt Credit Card automatically comes with Discoverist status, this will make it easier to earn mid-tier Explorist status or top-tier Globalist status. You’ll also be one-step closer to earning milestone benefits. You’ll earn the following benefits and status when you complete the below number of nights:
- 20 nights:Â Earn 2 Club Lounge awards
- 30 nights (Explorist status): Earn 2 more Club Lounge awards, plus a category 1-4 free night certificate
- 40 nights: Select one of three options — bonus points, $100 gift gift card or a FIND Experience Savings.
- 50 nights:Â 2 Suite Night awards
- 60 nights (Globalist status): 2 more Suite Night awards, plus a category 1-7 free night certificate, plus a My Hyatt Concierge Agent
- 70, 80, 90 and 100 nights: Select one of two options — 10,000 bonus points or one more Suite Night award
With already 10 nights under your belt, this will put you half way towards earning the 2 Club Lounge awards at the 20 night level and already one-third of the way towards the 30 night benefits, which gets you Explorist status.
Not to mention you’ll also earn up to 50,000 World of Hyatt points, which I value at approximately $1,000 towards free nights at Hyatt properties.
Overall
Although I do not foresee myself traveling anytime soon — I am in the camp of hunkering down while we are in this pandemic — I am glad to have my suite upgrades and another category 1-7 free night certificate. I know that this pandemic will not go on forever — many fingers crossed — and that I will hopefully be traveling again in 2021. Although, I believe it will be the latter half of the year.
I also believe World of Hyatt status is by far the best status to have. Many of the benefits include complimentary breakfast, lounge access, confirmed suite upgrades in advance, resort fees waived and more. While we typically earn this status in a more traditional manner by staying at Hyatt properties, I am glad that this promotion put is over the threshold so early in the year and I now do not have to worry about it.

Any idea when the additional elite night per $5,000 spend on the card will post? I spent a touch over $5,000 for my statement that closed a few days ago but was only credited with 2 elite nights.
@Christian – They did say it won’t post until the promo is over. So now that it is over, I am hoping it posts with your next statement close date.
