Hyatt just announced a new promotion and while it is actually a great offer it most likely will not apply to most members. With this promotion you’ll earn 3x points, but the extra point earning doesn’t kick in until your second stay. With the current pandemic in place, most people won’t be traveling much this summer and if they do, multiple stays is highly unlikely. You are also capped at earning 200,000 points during this promotion — which is quite a high cap. This offer runs between June 15 and September 15, 2020. You must register by August 31, 2020 and only stays after you register will count.

What qualifies as an eligible night?

With this promotion, you’ll receive triple points on all nights paid where the member is paying an eligible rate or redeeming a free night award. This means if you are using points for a free night stay, all incidentals billed to your room will also earn the double points.

Additionally, if your first stay within the promotional period is a free night award, that also counts as your first stay. Every stay thereafter will continue to earn the bonus points.

Overall…

I love that we are finally seeing another Hyatt promotion surface, but I wish it included your first stay. If your first qualifying stay with Hyatt happens to be a very expensive stay, you might want to consider a mattress run beforehand. This means that you can get your first qualifying stay out of the way with a cheap stay, as long as the bonus points earned on your next stay outweigh the cost of your first stay.

This is by far one of the better promotions we’ve seen from Hyatt, although most won’t be traveling this summer. Even though Hyatt is my families hotel of choice and we typically stay at their properties quite often — especially for business stays — we will not be staying at a Hyatt hotel this summer. Or most likely any hotel this summer. But for those that find yourself traveling, enjoy your triple points.
