A few weeks ago, JetBlue announced their extension policy regarding earning and maintaining JetBlue Mosaic status. It is actually a very consumer-friendly extension, where I think most JetBlue members are quire pleased. I know my family is happy and it has taken the pressure off from earning status in 2020.

Earning JetBlue Mosaic status

For starters, everyone who is currently holds JetBlue Mosaic status will have their status extended through Dec. 31, 2021. Even if you do not step on a JetBlue flight this entire year, you’ll still have status for all of next year. The only caveat is that you will not earn the extra 15,000 JetBlue points if you do not actually earn status this year and only maintain it based on the extension.

For those trying to earn status for this year, they also lowered the amount needed obtain status by 50%. These reduced thresholds include:

  • 7,500 qualifying points (vs. 15,000 points for the calendar year)
  • 6,000 qualifying points and 15 segments (vs. 12,000 points and 30 segments)

Now, the real big perk is that JetBlue is giving all current Mosaic members the opportunity to gift status to a friend or family member. This will give that person Mosaic status between June 15, 2020 through June 15, 2021. This will give then an entire year of free checked bags, flexible change and cancellation policies, bonus points on revenue flights and a few other nice to have perks. Being gifted Mosaic status, however, will not give them the extra 15,000 points you typically receive when earning Mosaic status the regular way.

There is one important thing to know though: you must select your recipient by today. Use this form to fill out the information required. Make sure to chose your recipient wisely as you will not be able to change it.

Personally, I gifted my status to a family member who I believe will actually be flying JetBlue over the next year. Of course, everything could change with the pandemic in place, but fingers crossed things get better and we are all in the skies soon. Although… I have my doubts.

If anyone is looking to gift Mosaic status, I would be personally very grateful. My gramps needs attention and I live cross country so this would come in really handy. Thanks so much in advance.
