Update: This offer is no longer available.

Hyatt just announced their first promotion of the year. Finally! With this promotion, you’ll earn double points on all stays between Feb. 15 and May 15, 2020. Unfortunately though, you will not receive the bonus points until your second eligible stay. I personally dislike when they add this criteria, but it seems to be the new norm. You must register for this promotion by March 31, 2020.

Additionally, if you have The World of Hyatt Credit Card or The Hyatt Credit Card, you’ll earn an extra 1,500 bonus points for each qualifying stay that includes a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night. (Also starting with your second stay).

What qualifies as an eligible night?

With this promotion, you’ll receive double points on all nights paid where the member is paying an eligible rate or redeeming a free night award. This means if you are using points for a free night stay, all incidentals billed to your room will also earn the double points. Or, if you have a weekend stay using points, you’ll still receive the 1,500 bonus points if you are a cardmember.

Additionally, if your first stay within the promotional period is a free night, that also counts as your first stay. Every stay thereafter will continue to earn the bonus points.

Overall…

I love that we are finally seeing another Hyatt promotion surface, but I wish it included your first stay. If your first qualifying stay with Hyatt happens to be a very expensive stay, you might want to consider a mattress run beforehand. This means that you can get your first qualifying stay out of the way with a cheap stay, as long as the bonus points earned on your next stay outweigh the cost of your first stay.

For Hyatt credit card members, being able to get an extra 1,500 bonus for weekend stays is great as well. I personally believe all the bonus points and statement credits earned throughout the year fully outweigh the annual fee for the card (and I actually come out well ahead), so this is one card that I have kept every year.

Personally, this promotion works well for my family. My husband travels often to New York City for business where hotel nights can be quite expensive, so earning double the amount of points works great.

What are your thoughts on this promotion?
