UPDATE: This offer has expired.

If you are looking to earn the Southwest Companion Pass, this might be your lucky day. A new card offer just came out for the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Card. With this card, you’ll earn up to 100,000 Southwest Rapid Reward points — 70,000 points after spending $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of card membership, plus 30,000 points after spending $25,000 on purchases within the first six months of card membership. This is essentially the same offer we’ve seen (and that is currently available via referral links and affiliate links), but now offers the extra 30k bonus point option. Granted, that extra bonus does require a decent amount of spend.

Aside from the points earned, the real benefit of this offer is that if you can meet the full minimum spend requirement, you’ll automatically earn 125,000 qualifying points for the Southwest Companion Pass. All bonus points earned plus spend on the card count as qualifying points. And to earn the pass, all you need is to earn 125,000 qualifying points within the year.

What is the Southwest Companion Pass

With the Southwest Companion Pass, a companion can fly with you for free (plus taxes) an unlimited number of times for the length of the pass. The pass expires December 31st of the following year it is earned, which means if you earn the pass now, you’ll have it through December 31, 2021. With the pass, there are no blackout dates or fare class requirement. As long as there is one seat available on the flight (meaning the flight isn’t sold out), you can add your companion onto your flight.

If you aren’t available for a business card…

If you are not eligible for a business card, but you are still interested in a Southwest credit card, right now Southwest is offering their highest ever offers on their three personal cards. These card offers expire Feb. 10, 2020, and will allow you to earn up to 75,000 points. The minimum spend requirement is also significantly less than the business card.

Overall…

If you are able to spend $25,000 within the next six months, then this might be a card to consider, especially if you live close to a Southwest hub. We are a big Southwest family and I have personally been a Southwest Companion Pass holder for the past 12 years. It has saved my family tens of thousands of dollars. I also love Southwest’s flexibility since we can change and cancel our flights and get flights re-priced if they decrease in the number of points required. Those are two huge perks for us.

Well… I just got mine a week ago… Do you know if they’ll honor it if I try for a bonus match?

Strictly speaking, you can get companion pass with any single SW card, even without a bonus.
