Fuel Rewards has been by far one of my favorite ways to save money on gas over the past few years. With this program I have saved over $600 at Shell Gas stations. One of the ways I’ve saved money was due to the IHG partnership. With this partnership everyone has been able to save an additional 5-7 cents per gallon simply for linking their account.
However, it looks like IHG and Fuel Rewards program are severing their relationship in 2019. Those with IHG Platinum status, which you automatically get just from having the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card saved an additional 6 cents per gallon! Typically with the fuel rewards program you save up to 5 cents per gallon (depending on your status with the fuel rewards program), so this was a great way to save even more on gas. I am definitely sad to see this partnership end, but it is still worth signing up for Fuel Rewards simply for the up to 5 cents per gallon savings. It literally takes a minute at most to sign up (and it is free). This partnership was also one of the 6 perks of having the credit card!
So if you are looking to take advantage of your IHG status with the fuel rewards program, you have less than 2 weeks to do so! And if you are new to Fuel Rewards, the diagram below will show you how it works.
All you do is swipe your Fuel Rewards card or enter your ID (which is your phone number). You can then pay with any credit card you want! You can even pay with a Shell gift card – they are available at Office Supply stores where you can earn 5x points when using many credit cards as well!

How did you save 11 cents? That’s a lot!
@Alex – I was wrong! I updated it. It was just 6 cents per gallon, but then I also randomly save an additional amount (that does stack) with other partners.
I’m not sure the IHG bonus saves “an additional 6 cents” on top of the 5 cents/gallon for Gold status. I’ve been doing this program all year and even communicated directly with Fuel Rewards’ customer service about this. The IHG bonus did two (2) things: (1) it made it unnecessary to meet the required minimum number of fills to retain Gold status and (2) it added a penny onto the 5 cents/gallon savings associated with Gold status. Now, if you were a T-Mobile customer, some of the T-Mobile Tuesday deals were 25 cents/gallon which DID stack on top of my 6 cents/gallon for whopping 31 cents/gallon savings. On top of that, if you were a Publix shopper and bought Shell gift cards using their $50 gift card for $40 coupon, you were, effectively, getting an additional 20% off every gas purchase!
@Jim F – Yes you are correct. It just increases the amount you save. But as you mentioned all of the savings do stack on top, for example Stop and Shop rewards.
