InterContinental Hotels Group is offering a week-long sale for those looking to purchase IHG points. With this promotion, there is a 100% bonus for those looking to purchase at least 25,000 points or more. You can purchase a maximum of 100,000 points per account per calendar year, plus the bonus. This is a flash sale goes through June 8, 2019.
Keep in mind that this is actually a pretty common promotion with IHG and definitely worthwhile if you have an upcoming stay at any of the properties under the IHG umbrella. But, there is no need to purchase now if you do not have a specific need as another opportunity will probably present itself within a few months.
Let’s assume you are planning to purchase the maximum of 150,000 points where every 1,000 points costs $10.00. With the bonus offer you will essentially be purchasing points at .5 cents per point. This is actually a great value to purchase points, and much better then the .7 cents per point roundabout method. Keep in mind the .5 cents per point doesn’t start until you purchase at least 26,000 points.
Example of where this is a good deal
Let’s assume you go all in and purchase 200,000 points for $1,000. This will get you 5 free nights at the Holiday Inn Resort in Aruba (right on the beach!). This property is 40,000 points a night — which means you can ultimately stay at this hotel for $200.00 a night during peak times, assuming available. Now, if you have the IHG Premier Rewards Credit Card, when you use your points for a free night award, you’ll receive your 4th night free, which means you can actually stay 6 nights at this property with your purchased points! Taking that into consideration, your cost per night comes down to only $166.66!
Also, IHG also offers PointBreak hotels where there is an entire list of hotels that only cost 5,000-15,000 points a night! It is a great opportunity to stay for cheap if there is a hotel on the list that you are looking to stay at. If you purchase enough points to get the 100% bonus, you’ll essentially be able to redeem a 5,0000 point Point Break hotel for $25.00, and that includes taxes!
However, like all point offers, I do not suggest purchasing points speculatively. Programs can devalue and you do not want to be stuck with points that you ultimately do not need. You can purchase IHG points here.

Stayed at the Aruba resort last XMAS. Was extremely disappointed with the rooms and property. Rooms were dirty, dirty, dirty. Mould growing in bathrooms, behind the doors, in the bedroom dresser drawers, on the balcony. Garbages in the resort were overflowing, mirrors in the elevator were held together with duck tape. Pools were dirty. Management was rude and extremely condescending. I would NEVER recommend this property to anyone.
@Stg – Thank you the feedback. I have personally never stayed there, but have walked by that resort many times and through the lobby. My parents just stayed there a few months ago and was content with the hotel. Although they spend 99.9% of their day on the beach.
