UPDATE: The two stores I went to were out and the women told me that she read a memo that credit cards will no longer be allowed starting tomorrow. RIP Vanilla Reloads.
There has been a lot of buzz over the past 24 hours that starting Monday March 31, 2014, CVS stores will no longer allow Vanilla Reload purchases with a credit card – cash only! That really takes the fun out of the game as there will then be no point in purchasing these VR cards. You can check out the memo that was sent to CVS stores here.
While nothing is certain and there is the possibility that some stores still might accept credit cards for a little while, while others might put a stop to it tomorrow.
I am heading out to a few CVS stores today to stock up on possibly my last hurrah of Vanilla Reload purchases. If you’ve been meaning to purchase these VR cards, I suggest heading to CVS today.
If this is the end of it I will sure be sad, but it had a good run.
Let me know if you’ve had any successful experiences at your local CVS!

I think it’s an April Fools joke
Husband and I just bought $5000 each at CVSs in VA this morning, by going to two stores, one had a $2000 per day limit. . No one at store had heard of any impending changes regarding accepting credit cards.
I just came back with $5,000 of VR, tomorrow will go and see what happens
“Stalk” or stock?
Northern CA manager knew of memo and we were still buying this am but the daily limit must be within 24 hours as part of my wife’s order was rejected and had to settle for 1k instead of 2k………so we’ll wait until evening the 24 hours has passed and make our last 10k run…………
We haven’t been able to get em here using credit cards for awhile…. so this news isn’t surprising. I never saw value in getting these, unless you came on top to cover the fees.
Manager in Baltimore confirmed it’s national and it’s tomorrow. I only ever bought enough to get points paying the mortgage and the auto, but it will stifle me on the $10k spends and annual spend thresholds I planned for the year.
What other retailers accept credit cards for the Vanilla Reload cards?
I just bought $5000 VR today no one said a word.
I bought $5000 tonight no problem.
