JetBlue’s Total Flight Times are Royally Screwed Up!

I recently booked a flight with JetBlue and noticed that their total flight times that they give are beyond inaccurate. I booked a flight between Boston and Cancun and it seems as though almost every route has extremely wrong total flight times – both non-stop flights and those with layovers. I know many fliers might quickly look at this information and select their desired flight solely based on the info given.

In the screen shot below, you’ll see that the non-stop flight states 5 hours and 48 minutes and the flight right below with a layover in Ft. Lauderdale has a 1 hour and 31 minute total flight time. If you are quickly making a reservations, you might just search by total flight time and look a price and if you see one flight time is less then another and the price is slightly lower, you’ll pick that one. When you book flights via the JetBlue app the total flight time is more apparent and is the information given vs. each legs flight (which is inaccurate also). Clearly, a flight from Boston to Cancun is more then an hour and a half, but to have false information (for days!) is quite disturbing.

The flight times for the return is also incredibly inaccurate.

In the screen shot above, you’ll see the non-stop flight stating a total flight time of just 3 hours! If that was the truth, I’d probably visit Cancun way more for beach vacations! In actuality, the flight time is really 4 hours. The flights with a layover state 11+ hours! This is extremely deceiving as the shortest total flight time with a layover is really only 2 hours and 20 minutes longer then the non-stop flight. But if you were to take a quick look you’d see a 3 hour flight vs. an 11 hour and 18 minute flight. Even though the layover flight is $35 less expensive, you might opt to pay the extra fee for a non-stop flight that’s 8 hours shorter (per the displayed flight times on the site). Now, if you knew it was only a 2 and a half hour difference, you might prefer to save the $35, especially if you are traveling with a large family and the extra cost adds up.

I really hope JetBlue fixes this error and gives the most accurate information possible. While I understand flight times might differ a few minutes here and there from what they really should be, having a many hour difference is not acceptable. I’ve even reached out to JetBlue to let them know of this error and while they said they’d look into it/fix it, I haven’t seen a change.

It’s hard to believe that JetBlue owns a technology venture company ( http://www.jetblueventures.com/ ) when they seem to be completely unable to even update their flight times at JFK. I can’t tell you how many times I arrive at JFK for an “on time” flight and the equipment they plan on using is still at the previous airport.
