Last Day for $20 Gift Card After Spending $20 at Gap or Old Navy

Note: This is only for new Plink.com registrations.

A few weeks ago I posted about an opportunity to spend $20 IN STORE at The Gap or Old Navy and get enough points to redeem for a $20 gift card at a variety of merchants (i.e., Amazon.com, Zappos, Walmart, etc.). This is through a website called Plink.com which I’ve written about before. You can learn more about this site and the various ways to earn points here. UPDATE: Plink is currently having an issue with some of the gift card redemption options. The vendor that supplies many of the cards is down, but you’ll be able to redeem shortly!

How this works:

  1. Sign up for Plink here for the $20 Gap or Old Navy promotion (make sure when signing up it states the $20 promotion – if you simply go through Plink.com and register you will not be registered for the promotion!)
  2. Link your credit card to your Plink account – I know many do not trust this concept so the choice is yours
  3. Add the merchant you’ll be shopping at to your Plink Wallet account (in this case add both Old Navy and Gap)
  4. Shop IN STORE at the Gap or Old Navy by end of day TODAY and spend $20 or more in a single transaction on your registered credit card (gift card purchases count as well if there is nothing specific you want to purchase today)

In my experience the points have taken about a week to post, and they all did post – no follow up was needed! At this point you can cash out those points for a $20 gift card for the following: iTunes, Tango card (which can then be redeemed at many merchants such as: Target, Home Depot, Pottery Barn and REI, etc.), Amazon.com, Walmart, Kohl’s, Barnes & Nobles, Overstock.com, and Zappos. I personally have cashed out thus far at Amazon.com and it has been an extremely easy process. The certificate took about a day to be emailed to my account (so keep that time table in mind when redeeming).

I know many commented last time that only 500 points posted and not the full 2,000 points. Bonus points take around 7-10 business days to be posted after the regular points are posted. If you have waited that long and still haven’t received your bonus points, send me a note and I’ll directly put you in touch with Plink.

Let me know if you have any questions! I personally like the Plink concept and love that I can now get points for my in-store purchases.

Note: The Plink link listed is a special referral link. Make sure when registering the promotion is marketed on the sign up page. Personal referral links and just going to Plink.com will not register you in the specific promotion.

As you keep on plugging Plink, you should clarify that Plink’s notion of linking your credit card to your Plink account is rather different than many other companies.

Most other companies that want to reward you based on your specific spending at specific partner merchants want to get your credit card number. This is scary enough to hand over, but most of us aren’t reluctant to hand over our credit cards to strangers making minimum wage at retail stores. With that credit card number, the company also need a partnership with the credit card processing network (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) to see your transactions and pick out the ones they are supposed to reward you on. So there’s an extra level of assurance: as a consumer you might not be able to fully vet out every such company, but Visa/Mastercard do their homework before entering into such a partnership, so if you can verify that they really do partner with Visa/Mastercard, you have some level of assurance.

However, Plink wants your credit card Web site login credentials. They don’t need to have a partnership with Visa/Mastercard; you don’t get the assurance therein. They get to see more data: what’s your credit limit, are you on time with your payments, etc. And you may be violating your terms of usage with your credit card issuer by providing your Web site login credentials to any other entity.

Therefore, I am not interested in entering into such a relationship with Plink.

@PH – Absolutely understand. Everyone needs to make that decision for themselves on whether or not they feel comfortable giving out their credit card information. I cannot make the decision for each user, but understand if readers/users do not feel comfortable with this.

Wasn’t able to cash out for Walmart or Amazon cards. The only one available was zappos. This seems like a bad deal.

@Michelle S – Wow, I am seeing that now as well. They were there a few days ago. I just emailed the CMO of Plink to see what is going on.

UPDATE: The vendor that provides many of the gift cards is currently down, but they will be back shortly.

I cashed out for a barnes and noble card- will use it to buy magazines with a coupons which for certain titles is cheaper than a subscription. Fun while it lasted, but I don’t think I’ll be doing plink in the long term.

I linked my card and made a qualifying purchase at Old Navy. I got the points within one week and redeemed for an Amazon gift card. My account says that the gift card was sent on 05/31 – but it’s now 6/6 and I still haven’t received it. I checked my spam and trash folders, too…NOTHING. Any advice?

@rachel – in the past mine came the next day via email from tango. Search your email from tango and if still nothing I suggest contacting plink.

Does plink forfeit your point if you switch linked credit cards?
