Marriott’s Fall MegaBonus promotion was just announced and will run from September 15, 2013 through January 15, 2014. This is the exact same promotion that they run about 3 times a year for the past many many many years. With all MegaBonus promotions, each individual is targeted for a different promotion depending on their stay pattern. In the past, members were able to call Marriott and get moved to another promotion. This last go-around folks were actually able to get a change confirmed, but the past two prior to that members had no luck changing their targeted offer. The flexibility might vary per member depending on your level.
You’ll need to sign into your account and see which promotion you received, but they include the following:
Typical offers are (based on past promotions):
- 2 stays = 1 free night for a category 1-4 hotel (expires 1 year from the date issued) – limit of three free night certificates earned during the promotion
- 2 stays = 1 free night for a category 1-5 hotel (expires 1 year from the date issued) – limit of two free night certificates earned during the promotion
- 20 nights = 35,000 points; 25 nights earns additional 10,000 for a total of 45,000 points
- 20 nights = 35,000 points; each additional night earns 2,000 points per night, up to 10 nights for a total of 55,000 points
- 15 nights = 25,000 points; 20 nights earns additional 10,000 for a total of 35,000 points
- 15 nights = 25,000 points; each additional night earns 2,000 points per night, up to 10 nights for a total of 45,000 points
Registration is required by November 15, 2013. If it takes you to “Session Timed Out” page, make sure to sign into your Marriott account and re-click on the registration link.
I personally was targeted for the stay twice, earn a category 1-5 certificate which I was pleased about. With the recent massive category changes the category 1-4 certificates are getting to be close to useless and devalues this particular promotion.
Even with the recent category changes, the other hotel summer promotions are sub-par, so this might be an enticing promotion (especially if you can get the free cat 1-5 night after two stays). I also like that they started extending the expiration date to 1 year for the certificates. Since I won’t be traveling much this Fall, I’ll probably have two different stays which will still get me a free 1-5 cat certificate.

Do you have to commence or complete a stay by Sept 15? It just so happens I have a one night stay on 9/14.
@Matt – The stay will be coded into the Marriott system as 9/14 so it won’t work. However, if it were a two night stay and included the night of 9/15 it would count.
I have an upcoming 4 nights stay. If I split that reservation into two 2 nights stays, will it satisfy the requirements for the promotion?
Thanks
@Alex – It depends how the specific hotel puts your stay through the system. If they do it as two two night stays you are good. But many hotels will combine back to back reservations into one stay.
My offer was different from the ones you have listed: 35,000 bonus points after 20 paid nights plus an additional 15,000 after 25 paid nights, up to 50,000 bonus points
A bit confused on the verbage of the promotion. Am I correct in I have to stay 2 consecutive nights at the same hotel and have 2 of these types of stays to qualify for 1 free night?
@frank – you need to have two stays to earn the 1 free night. I stay is defined as check-in and check-out. A stay can consistent of 1 night or many many nights. So to answer your question no you do not need 2 consecutive nights at the same hotel, all you need is 1 night for the stay to count.
I’m at platinum and have always been offered the 20 nights/35K + addl 15K for 25 nights (with variations). I know I’m not going to make the 20 nights for the summer promotion (at 13 now) so I just called and they were able to switch promotions to give me the free 1-5 cert x 2. I also switch my fall promotion to the same. Since a cat 5 costs 25K/night, a cert after two stays is better than staying 25 just to get 50K.
I was able to sign up for both a 5K per night offer for every two stays (that one seems targeted) and the free night after two stays offer. What are the chances they will let them stack together?
@lee – if the timing overlaps it should stack.
It applies to previously booked reservations, correct? I don’t have to cancel and re-book now that I have registered, right?
If I book 2 separate Marriott stays through RocketMiles, will I get a free certificate after my second stay? If so, would I have to call in after booking to add my Marriott rewards #, or could I do so at check-in?
