For as long as I can remember, Marriott’s typical promotion has been the “MegaBonus”. Typically, there are a variety of offerings for this promotion, but for the average traveler the best one is a free night stay certificate after two stays (the free night certificate is typically capped at a category 4 hotel and you are only able to earn 2-3 free nights during the promotion time).Â
Well… it seems as though Marriott has changed up the norm and the MegaBonus promotion is not nearly as generous. From reports I’ve read and checking out family members accounts, for most people the promotion is double points on every paid stay up to 25,000 points. And, the double points do not start until your second stay. The promotion runs between September 15, 2014 and January 15, 2015. Registration is required by November 15, 2014. If it takes you to “Session Timed Out” page, make sure to sign into your Marriott account and re-click on the registration link.
This promotion will definitely NOT entice me to stay at Marriott over the next six months. Unfortunately though for Marriott, had the promotion been the stay twice, earn a free night, I absolutely would have altered my stay patterns to include two Marriott hotels.
Was anyone targeted for a different promotion?

Nope, I got the same crappy offer. I used to make a point of maxing out the Megabonus offers, but will probably be staying mostly at Hilton properties now.
I got the points offer and I’m content with that.
If they raised the certs to at least Cat6 value might return. As it is, I’m thinking to cancel the Marriott CC I have now, the yearly Cat5 is just sitting in my account and likely will expire unused.
Sure I can burn a Cat4/5 cert on a Fairfield in an Industrial Park somewhere but why would I do that? I’d typically rather be near something interesting than spend time schlepping to a remote burbs locations.
