Yesterday I posted on an offer from American Express where you can get a $25 gift card for $15 by syncing your Amex card to Twitter and then tweeting a specific hashtag code. This was not the typical Amex / Twitter syncing offer as you are getting something for a discount to begin with, while in the past you’d pay full price at the merchant and then receive a statement credit for a set dollar amount. Side note: The $25 Amex gift card for $15 is now sold out.
This gift card offer was the first of many offers being presented by American Express. Tomorrow (Wednesday), five more discounted products will be available:
- $149 Amazon Kindle Fire HD (assuming the 16GB version, this is typically $199 on Amazon)
- $179 Sony Action Cam and waterproof headband mount (currently I see the cam going for $179.99 at Sony.com and the headband mount for about $28.99; although there is a wifi and non-wifi version, so not sure which item will be available)
- $80 Urban Zen bracelet designed by Donna Karan (seems like there are a few bracelets in Donna Karan’s collection, so no idea which one will be sold and what the retail cost would be)
- $179 Microsoft Xbox 360 (including a 3-month Xbox Liv subscription, two game tokens and a $29 Xbox controller) (since I have no idea the GB size that will be sold, it is hard to compare, but a 4GB goes for $179 without the extra stuff, and a 250GB console sells for $199)
There will be a different hashtag for each deal (which I will announce and will be available on Amex’s Twitter page). There will be two hashtags to actually purchase the deal, one is a “buy” tag and the other is a “confirm” tag. You’ll have 15 minutes to tweet the confirmation hashtag after getting the confirmation tweet from Twitter on the “buy” hashtag. All items will be processed by American Express and will be shipped using free 2-day shipping. Keep in mind, the current going price I noted above for each item were done with a quick google search and you might be able to find a better price elsewhere. I also do not know if tax will be included or not included in the Amex Twitter Sync promotion prices, so that could result in even higher savings.

I tweeted…. but got no response. Am I safe in assuming that I tweeted after the offer sold out? I don’t see a pending charge on my linked AMEX account.
@Travel Bug – it seems like they messed up this promotion technology, so I am really not sure. If you did not get a response then probably not 🙁
My response was in the @connect area. I didn’t find that until my buy expired(15 min) and when retrying the buy the offer had expired. Confused me, too.
I think the way it was first time users or users who already have their Amex linked first need to confirm their AX card.
The actual process after that was simple if you know what you are doing.
Step 1: tweet with the #BuyAmexGiftCard25 Get $25 Amex Gift Card for $15 w/synced Amex Card.
Step 2: After you receive the @yourtwitterhandle Tweet #ConfirmAmexGiftCard25 w/in 15 min to buy – $15.00 w/synced Card. QtyLtd Terms: http://amex.co/W4Xub3?B
You have to tweet again.
#ConfirmAmexGiftCard25 confirm tweet or something.
The next promotion they are saying will be out tomorrow noon eastern.
I followed all of the instructions last night and it didn’t work.
the first time you tweet they send back a message for you to go and resync your amex card. You have to add your address and some billing information about your card, so they can charge you for the item. This is a lot different that what we did before where you just spend money at some vendor they chose and you receive a credit. After you fill in the information, they send you back a confirmation. You then have to tweet again that you agree, by sending a hashtag “Confirm blah blah”. Once you’ve confirmed it, you get billed.
If you didn’t get a confirmation back, it’s possible they used up the allotment of gift cards. You do have to act fast if it involves “free money”…
I had an issue with this too. I did the hashtag thing as soon as I saw it posted last night and today saw a reply that I had to enter more of my credit card information. So I retweeted with that hashtag and they said the offer is sold out. I mentioned that I applied yesterday but I had to enter more credit card info. They sent my message to a different customer service department. We’ll see what happens…
