Last week Iberia airlines ran an extremely lucrative promotion where you could receive essentially receive 90,000 Avios points for approximately $250. Instead of rehashing the program, you can learn more about the promotion here (which is now expired, so do not actually go ahead and book flights!): Best Promotion of the Year! $300 for 90,000 Iberia Avios Points and I’m Going All In! $250 for 90,000 Points!

With this promotion, you were to receive the points within 10 days of booking the flight. Since the promotion started June 20th and went through June 24th, points should have posted by now for the folks that booked flights the first two days of this offer. Unfortunately, I have not read any reports of points being posted. I personally booked on the 3rd day of the promotion so technically I should see my points post tomorrow, but right now I do not foresee that happening!

I signed into my Iberia account this morning (as I have been every single morning to see if the points posted early) and instead of seeing points in my account, I saw a big red error. Unfortunately this error is happening for both mine and Adam’s account and after doing some research it seems like there are many reports of this error happening. They will not allow me to even sign into my account!a screenshot of a phone

While I’ve had an Iberia account for awhile (although never actually used), it had my maiden name attached to it. Instead of fixing the name issue which can be pain in the you know what, I created a new account with the correct info. I only used my new account and Adam’s newly created account to purchase the tickets, not the old account. From the reports I’ve read, only new accounts have been affected with this log in issue.

My thoughts…

Since this has the potential to be an awesome way to secure points for cheap, I am assuming many people took advantage of this offer on multiple accounts. I am sure there were accounts great for dogs, unborn children, etc. and not actual legit accounts. Maybe they are putting a hold on newly created accounts to ensure there are no duplicates for the same people, maybe?

Another possibility is that their IT system is just awful. When new accounts were created they did not tie their Iberia Plus number to the reservations booked. You had to go back into your account and manually add your Iberia Plus number. This just shows a lag in their IT system so who knows what else is going on in the back and.

And ultimately, it could be that they are just not honoring this promotion. While I do not believe this is the case since this is just affecting new accounts and they keep on responding to questions in a positive manner, that is always the possibility. The fact that they have not yet posted points in accounts that booked the first two days of the program is worrisome. Ultimately though, I think it is due to reasons #1 and #2. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome!

I am having the same issue today. However, if I go to their spanish web-site, it does still show my 10 individual reservations with my IB+ number attached to the reservation. Fingers crossed here as well.

I have a single account that is about a year old. I didn’t book anything during the promo but do have another trip I booked shortly before. Im locked out of my account, validated my identity, which they confirmed and yet I am still locked out. Calls to their 800 number have just not worked.

Created my account to take advantage of the promotion on the 22nd, booked 10 cheap one-way flights. Can’t log in to my account. I can still pull up my reservations, and my account # is attached to each one.

We’ll see….

Thanks for the heads up. Same issue with mine. Kept digging in and found they needed identity confirmation. Filled out a form, signed it and sent it back with a copy of my passport.

The two real, long held accounts (of my SO and I) which participated in the promotion are having no problems with access. Still no points posting to either account.

No issues to log in likely because my account was opened last year. However, points have not posted and I’m getting concerned. Why is it so hard for certain companies to just honor their promotions according to their Ts&Cs?

Have you tried clearing your cookies or using a different browser? I didn’t participate in this promotion and have trouble logging in anyway, but clearing my cookies fixed the problem.
