All you have to do in enroll in National’s Emerald Club between September 16 and January 1, 2019 and you’ll automatically receive Emerald Club Executive Status. You can enroll here. It took me about 2 minutes to enroll an my account immediately stated that I had “Executive” status. I’ll take any status I can get, even if I might not use it!

Also, if you pay for your first rental with ANY American Express credit card you’ll earn 6 credits towards a future rental. When you have Executive status, 6 credits earns you a free rental day, so this is essentially a buy one, get one! My gut assumption is that 90% of my readers have an American Express credit card and if you don’t, ask a friend or family member if you can use their credit card! Here are the terms of the promotion.

What Does Executive Status Get You?

With National’s Emerald Club Executive status, you’ll receive:

  • A free rental ay after you earn 6 credits. Typically it would require 7 credits if you had no status
  • Ability to select any car you want as long as you reserve a Midsize car. So that means, you only have to pay for a Midsize and you can walk away with a mini van if it is available! You pick the car you want.
  • You’ll also receive a guaranteed upgrade in the US and Canada if you reserve a Midsize car, although this seems like a duplicate benefit as the one above?

For example, when we go skiing out West, SUV’s cost an arm and a leg, but only having to pay for a midsize car and actually getting a SUV is huge. Of course if you plan on going during a peak peak time, availability might be limited, but at large airports there are always a ton of cars to chose from.
