New Southwest Cities - Akron, Dayton, Des Moines, Key West, and Washington, DC

Just recently, Southwest Airlines announced new service to the following cities:

Akron/Canton, OH (begins August 12, 2012) – direct flights to/from:

Chicago (Midway)
Denver

Dayton, OH (begins August 12, 2012) – direct fights to/from:

Denver

Des Moines, IA (begins September 30, 2012) – direct flights to/from:

Chicago (Midway)

Key West, FL (begins November 4, 2012) – direct flights to/from:

Tampa
Orlando

Washington, DC (begins July 8, 2012) – direct flights to/from:

Austin

I am excited to see Southwest adding more cities and expanding their presence. Personally, I am most happy to see Key West as getting there can be challenging (flying into Miami and driving 4 hours) or expensive. While the Southwest flights are still around $400 roundtrip from NY, utilizing my Southwest companion pass makes it an inexpensive weekend away!

I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will soon pick up some of AirTrans Caribbean destinations as that would be a huge advantage for Southwest. While I am not holding my breathe as mergers typically take a few years, I am very excited for that benefit.
