I lived in New York City for 10 years and for 9 of those years experienced first hand the construction of the new 2nd Avenue subway. I listened to jackhammering, bull dozing, cranes falling – you named it. But it was all going to be worth it in the end. Getting downtown from 2nd Avenue was going to be so much better. And they were actually building a stop right below my building on 93rd and 2nd! I was thrilled. I had a baby in the city and there was not one subway station close by with an escalator or elevator. And walking a stroller down a million stairs was just not going to happen. So I was bound to the bus and anywhere my legs would take me. As luck has it, we ended up moving out of the city only a few months prior to the 2nd Avenue Subway opening! So I never got to experience it the way I was hoping for!

Recently, I brought my now 4 year old daughter back to New York City for a girls weekend. She is still very much a city girl – loves walking and public transportation. While taking an Uber would have been much easier (and not nearly as cold!), we opted for the train and experienced the 2nd Avenue Subway first hand!

It was nice and clean and the station felt lively! And I loved that it was both handicap accessible and baby friendly! It actually reminded me of Washington DC a little due to the long escalator getting down to the bottom of the platform.

While I am sad I just missed getting to live in NYC with the 2nd avenue subway, I am really glad it is there. Getting places from the UES is much quicker and my mommy friends are now able to explore the entire city with their babies/kids easier!
