JetBlue always had a semi-generous standby policy. If you showed up at the airport and were looking to go standby for the flight immediately prior to or after your originally booked flight, there would be no charge. It was actually the one airline that would give you some sort of FREE option to change your flight same day at the airport.

Unfortunately though, this has changed and there is no longer a free option. Now, even the flight immediately prior or after your originally scheduled flight will incur the same standby flight change fee of $75. With that being said, you can make that change from home or at the airport beginning at midnight the same calendar day as your originally scheduled flight. Like always, your flight must be for the same day of travel and the same city pair. Also, if you are taking a flight that only has one flight a day, you are out of luck and no same-day flight change is permitted.

For those who have Mosaic status, the same day change fee is waived. Not only that, you can make that change 24 hours prior to your originally scheduled flight, you do not need to wait until midnight. This is one of those really nice perks of having Mosaic status!

While the no fee same day change option (for the flight immediately before or after your scheduled flight) was nice for those that need the flexibility, it was also a way for people to book a less expensive flight and then hope to grab their desired flight without paying the increased fare. This was a great loophole for those traveling on a light day when you knew the flight would not be full. Looks like this loophole is now closed. Although, if your desired flight is significantly cheaper, it still might be worthwhile and then just pay the $75 fee. Or if you have Mosaic status, this is a good option, assuming you are okay taking your booked flight if things do not go in your favor.

It seems like JetBlue is starting to make a ton of changes that are definitely not in the consumers favor! Yesterday I also wrote about how JetBlue is decreasing the number of days you have to get a price adjustment if your flight decreases in price. Of course JetBlue still has a ton of more flexibility then other airlines, but I really hope they do not fully go to the dark side.

Thanks to reader Jonathan at Autoslah for letting me know of this change as well!
