Redeeming British Airways Avios on US Airways Flights

The other day I came across a great post written by The Flight Deal. It includes a compiled list of all the redemption options with British Airways Avios points from US Airways hubs. As many of you are probably already aware, using your British Airways Avios points is based on the number of miles each segment of the flight – so non-stop flights are much better redemption opportunities than those with a layover. You can read more about the British Airways Avios program in this prior blog series.

While The Flight Deal included the non-stop flights from their major hubs like Charlotte, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Phoenix, I wanted to compile a list for those in the Northeast. This list includes those airports that serve New York City and the surrounding area, Boston and the surrounding area, Connecticut, Vermont, and Maine.

So starting March 31, 2014 when US Airways joins OneWorld Alliance you’ll be able to use your British Airways points to these new cities. The number of Avios listed is for a one-way flight in economy.

Islip, New York:

  • Washington, DC – 4,500 Avios points
  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points

Westchester (White Plains), New York:

  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Charlotte – 4,500 Avios points
  • Washington, DC – 4,500 Avios points

LaGuardia (New York):

  • Boston – 4,500 Avios points
  • Charlotte (already serviced by AA) – 4,500 Avios points
  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Pittsburg – 4,500 Avios points
  • Washington, DC – 4,500 Avios points

JFK (New York):

  • Charlotte – 4,500 Avios points
  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Phoenix – 12,500 Avios points

Newark:

  • Charlotte – 4,500 Avios points
  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Phoenix – 12,500 Avios points

Boston:

  • Buffalo – 4,500 Avios points
  • Cancun (doesn’t go non-stop every day of the week) – 10,000 Avios points
  • Charlotte – 7,500 Avios points
  • Harrisburg – 4,500 Avios points
  • Montego Bay (doesn’t go non-stop every day of the week) – 10,000 Avios points
  • New York (LGA) – 4,500 Avios points
  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Phoenix – 12,500 Avios points
  • Pittsburgh – 4,500 Avios points
  • Providenciales, Turks and Caicos (doesn’t go non-stop every day of the week) – 10,000 Avios points
  • Punta Cana (doesn’t go non-stop every day of the week) – 10,000 Avios points
  • Richmond – 4,500 Avios points
  • Rochester – 4,500 Avios points
  • Syracuse – 4,500 Avios points
  • Washington, DC – 4,500 Avios points

Manchester, New Hampshire:

  • Charlotte – 7,500 Avios points
  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Washington, DC – 4,500 Avios points

Providence, Rhode Island:

  • Charlotte – 7,500 Avios points
  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Washington, DC – 4,500 Avios points

Hartford, Connecticut

  • Charlotte – 4,500 Avios points
  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Washington, DC – 4,500 Avios points

Portland, Maine

  • Charlotte – 7,500 Avios points
  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Washington, DC – 4,500 Avios points

Bangor, Maine:

  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Washington, DC – 4,500 Avios points

Burlington, Vermont:

  • Philadelphia – 4,500 Avios points
  • Washington, DC – 4,500 Avios points

Boston is really making out on this as they currently have no American Airlines direct flights to the Caribbean/Mexico. While the US Airways routes from Boston to four warm vacation destinations do not depart every day of the week, it is great to now have this option for only 10,000 Avios points each way!

Remember, US Airways is set to join OneWorld on March 31, 2014, but it might take a few days for British Airways to upload US Airways flights into their system. You will not be able to make a reservation until that happens.

Enjoy!

Very useful information. I have several upcoming trips from CLT to Providence and Portland, ME. Using Avios will work out great.
