Southwest just launched an awesome promotion for those who have the Southwest credit card. Between Aug. 1 and Oct. 30, 2020, you’ll earn a 30% bonus on all points earned from using your Southwest credit credit card. You must earn at least 6,000 points for the bonus to kick in and you can earn a maximum of 25,000 bonus points. You can register for this promotion on your Southwest Rapid Rewards promotion page. Unfortunately though, this promotion is targeted.
Earn up to 30,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards bonus points
Anything that pops up in your Rapid Rewards account as “Credit Card” will count. For those who just applied for the Southwest credit cards, when those points post to your account, they might even be included in the bonus. The terms do state that they will not count, but when they are posted to your account they are clumped into all credit card spend for the month. So I am not sure if their system knows how to differentiate.
That means if you grabbed an increased 100,000 point offer, you might be looking at the extra 25,000 points right away. Or, if you applied for one of the lower 40,000 point offers, that will still net you another 10,000 points.
All bonus points count towards the Southwest Companion Pass
The absolute best part about this offer, is that all bonus points earned count towards the Southwest Companion Pass. This is huge as it makes earning the pass for 2020 and 2021 could much easier.
Overall…
Typically with most Southwest credit cards, you earn 2 points per dollar spent on Southwest purchases (as well as Rapid Rewards hotel and car rental partner purchases) and 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases. If you are eligible for this promotion, this means you’ll earn 2.6 points per dollar on Southwest purchases and then 1.3 points on everything else.
One thing to keep in mind with this offer is that the points must post to your account by Oct. 31, 2020. This means you MUST meet your minimum spend for your new credit card and any additional credit card by your October statement close date. Any purchases made after your October date will not post until your November statement closes and thus will be ineligible for the bonus points. (If in fact credit card sign up offers do qualify).
This is a great way to increase your Southwest account balance and earn the amazing Southwest Companion Pass. I personally have already secured my Southwest Companion pass for 2020 and 2021, so even though I am targeted for this promotion I actually will not be taking advantage.

Neither of us in my household have the offer.
Needing to spend $10K on the card before the bonus takes effect (retroactively) makes it much less interesting to me.
My offer stated I need to have 6,000 points post for the bi is to kick in.
I was targeted, but according to the Terms and Conditions, bonus points for new credit signup does NOT count.
“Bonus points earned from Chase on a new credit card promotion will not be eligible for the 25% bonus.”
@Scott – I do wonder how it will actually play out in practice though. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do count. We shall see!
Mine says 6000 points. That’s doable for me.
@LK – Great!
I’m not targeted. Booo
I was targeted for the offer shown at the top of your article. I have the Priority personal card. I was wondering, If you get a new card now, how does it get selected and registered for the 25% bonus ?
@Sir Jim- You need to go into your account and see if you are eligible for the bonus.
Can you please tell me how long the promotional points take to post. I need them from the last offer to qualify for the CP for next year
if you have another card or 2(FU, INK, CSR…) their bonus can easy exceed this promo, unless you are working on CP.
I checked cards for all my family- 6 cards and no one got this. That is pretty annoying – why would they choose only some people to offer this to? Of course after the grocery promotion ended I have stopped using the cards as 1 point per $1 spend not worth when so many better offers on other cards. This promotion would have made us continue to use the card .
