Hilton Status Match Updates — No More Diamond Opportunities

Hilton has always offered one of the more generous status match opportunities. They came around quite often and allowed members to receive up to Diamond status with very little criteria. Hilton status is one of the better statuses to have, even mid-tier Gold status, so being able to earn status quite easily has been great over the past few years.

Unfortunately though, the terms of earning status is changing.

Earn status based on nights, not stays

In the past, to earn status through a status match promotion, you had to complete a certain number of stays. Now, the requirements will turn over to nights.

  • Complete 10 nights within 90 days, and your Gold status will be extended through March 31, 2021 (used to be 4 stays)
  • Complete 18 nights within 90 days, and you will be upgraded to Diamond status through March 31, 2021 (used to be 8 stays)

You can no longer earn Diamond status

Hilton is no longer offering the option to earn Diamond status via a status match. This is definitely unfortunate, although there is still a lot of value in Gold status.

With Gold status you still receive complimentary breakfast (which is one of my favorite perks of status), the possibility of an upgraded room and the potential for access to the executive lounge.

Overall…

While these changes are overall negative, I do appreciate that Hilton still offers a status match opportunity. If you want status and completing a status match isn’t possible, it is actually easy to earn status with one of Hilton’s co-branded credit cards.

Hilton has four different co-branded cards and every single one will actually earn you either Silver, Gold or Diamond status right off the bat.

Hopefully most of you already have Hilton status so this change will not affect you much!
