There are rumors flying around the blogosphere that Wyndham might be changing their current award structure. Right now, for ALL Wyndham properties, you can redeem a fixed 15,000 points for a free night award. It doesn’t matter if it is a nice resort property in Caribbean or a dumpy Howard Johnson right off the highway — 15,000 points across the board! Doctor of Credit first reported that he received some info news that they might be changing to a three tiered award chart:
- Tier 1: 7,500 points
- Tier 2: 15,000 points
- Tier 3: 30,000 points
While this is great news for those that prefer to redeem points at inexpensive properties (which will most likely go dow to the 7,500 level) this will be detrimental for most readers. For those hotels that are mid to high level properties, I expect them to jump to 30,000 points (if this rumor is in fact true). I recently stayed at the Wyndham in Santa Monica and it was a steal for just 15,000 points. While the actual rooms are nothing to right home about and half the property looks out to the highway, the location was suburb and it is an overall decent hotel — and rates were well over $350/night when I went!
Unfortunately right now Wyndham is neither confirming or denying these rumors. Wyndham is definitely known to not have the best business practices when it comes to changing their program or promotions. The chances of us getting any prior notice (again, assuming this is true) is rare, so if you have a Wyndham stay you are looking to make, I suggest making it now at the 15,000 point mark, just in case! I’ll be sure to update you all if any more information is received!

Mark my word, this dishonest program will do this without notice. Why anyone would stay at one of their hotels is beyond me.
Cuz value… Agreed that they’re shady AF though. However….you can get a solid room in a decent location for 15k points per night, which is a steal. The Clearwater Beach Wyndham grand, for example, is going for around $350/night for an upcoming trip I’m taking

I just made a cancellable award reservation for next October at a very nice Wyndham property. Normally I would wait, but it’s safer to go ahead and get it done…just in case.
Wyndham is far from my favorite chain but it does have its place, for me maybe 5-6 nights a year. I have the older version of the Wyndham Visa that gives 2 points per $ for all purchases and 15K anniversary points for paying the $69 annual fee. For example, NYC has a few viable properties if I just need a place to sleep, particularly if I’m alone and don’t want to spend a lot of Hyatt or Marriott points. A quick visit to the mall and I can obtain a reasonable and Inexpensive room in an otherwise expensive city. At 30 K per night, I will probably enjoy my Globalist breakfast and redeem at Hyatt and completely move on from Wyndham and the street vendor breakfast.
