Welcome to another post of helping a reader travel! Here are some travel tips and suggestions generated from reader comments on things to do in Porto, Portugal.
A few weeks ago a reader wrote in asking for Portugal suggestions. I was able to cover Portugal as a whole, but wanted to hit on many of the major tourist spots within the country as well. This will include: Lisbon, Porto, Lagos, and any others that are requested.
Here are some things I am sure readers will want suggestions on:
- Where to stay
- How many days to stay
- Sites to see
- Recommended restaurants
- Anything else you might think is valuable!
If you’ve ever been to Portugal, specifically Porto, let’s help out reader Joe and I am sure many other interested readers! The goal of this weekly post is to help readers get a top of travel advice from the thousands of Deals We Like readers.
Also, if you have any upcoming travel where you need some help, feel free to email me at dealswelike@gmail.com to be a featured “Help a Reader Travel” Monday special.
Check out many other destinations and comment on suggestions here.
Thanks!

Aside from the obvious (port wine tasting across the river) I highly recommend taking a Segway tour from Bluedragon City Tours. It was the highlight of our trip to Portugal and a great way to see this very hilly city. Inexpensive too. Do it early in the trip and you can go back to the places of most interest to you.
We stayed at the Guest House Douro several years ago and it is quite an experience. The rooms are lovely and they overlook the river. The owner is what makes this place an experience. She takes you under her wing and tells (not suggests) you what to do and where to eat, but she knows her stuff. One time we told her we were going some place for lunch and she said “no you aren’t, you will go here and I will make a reservation.” We dutifully complied and had one of our best meals in Portugal at a seafood restaurant on the ocean where we were greeted as special guests. If you are willing to give up some control, this is the place to stay. It is heavily booked.
Where did you stay?
Hi
I would recommend a visit to the Music House http://www.casadamusica.com/en/
And also check the Serralves Museum and the Gardens http://www.serralves.pt/en/ It is a nice place to have lunch as well.
I’ve stayed recently at the Sheraton hotel, you can see my review here: http://mrmysteryreviewer.wordpress.com/2014/06/07/short-stay-sheratonhotels-in-porto-sheratonporto-hotel-spa/
