How to Get Amazon Prime

As the name describes, Amazon Prime Day is limited to those Amazon members who have an Amazon Prime membership. If you do not have a Prime membership, your best bet is to sign up for a free trial. It will give you 30 days of free prime access.

However, if you want to purchase a full membership, there are a few days to get a discount off of the normal $119 yearly cost. Alternatively, you can also pay by the month — 12.99 per month — which might be a better option if you are looking for a membership only during Amazon Prime Day, during Black Friday/Cyber Monday and throughout the holiday period.

For a full membership, TopCashBack is offering members $15 cash back by signing up through their site. Or, if you happen to have a student e-mail address, you can get an Student Amazon Prime membership for half price or a free 6-month trial membership.

Amazon Prime Day Credits, Promotions and Coupons

Amazon is going above and beyond to give you extra savings on the already discounted prices that you’ll see on Prime Day. This is a great way to lessen the cost of your purchases or even get some items for free. As of right now, you can earn up to $90 in credits! Just remember to use your credits by their expiration date — which for most is October 14.

You can also check all your credits here to see what has/has not posted to your account.  Once you see you’ve earned credits, you can go ahead and claim them, which will allow you to use the credits towards your Prime Day shopping.

Spend $10 on a Small Business purchase, get a $10 credit

[Expired] Between now and October 12, if you spend $10 or more on a small business product from Amazon, you’ll earn a $10 credit to spend on Prime Day. Truthfully, it is hard to fully understand which products qualify, but they do have a list of products listed out by category:

Spend $10 at Whole Foods, get $10 to Amazon

Amazon will give you a $10 credit to spend during the two-day Prime Day event, if you are a Whole Foods Market shopper. All you have to do is spend $10 at Whole foods — either in-store or online — between September 28 and October 14, 2020 and you’ll receive the credit, which must be used by October 14. You are limited to receiving just one credit per account. Just make sure you scan your linked Amazon/Whole Foods QR code during check-out.

Spend $10 at on Amazon Fresh, get $10 to Amazon

a blue card with black text

Place an order of $10 or more through Amazon Fresh between September 28 and October 14, and you’ll receive a $10 credit to use on Prime Day. With Amazon Fresh, as long as your order is $35 or more, your delivery will be free. I use Amazon Fresh (and Amazon Prime / Whole Foods) normally for my grocery shopping, but prices do differ between the two, so make sure to price compare.

Spend $10 at Amazon Books, Amazon Pop Up and Amazon 4-Star, get up to $20 to Amazon

a blue and white banner with white squares and numbers

If you happen to have an Amazon Books or Amazon Pop Up store near by, you can earn another $10 credit by spending $10 or more. You are also limited to just one $10 credit for Amazon Books and Amazon Pop Up — even if you shop at both.

There is then a separate promotion, where you can earn another $10 at an Amazon 4 Star location — again, by spending $10 or more. These locations are also limited, but if you live in an urban area, there is a decent chance you’ll have one nearby.

With these two promotions combined, you can earn a total of $20 credits on Prime Day as long as you make your purchase by October 14.

Spend $10 at Amazon Go, get $10 to Amazon

a blue and white card with text and a bottle in a box

Amazon has a very limited number of Amazon Go stores — where you can pick up breakfast, lunch and snacks — and if you are lucky enough to live near one of them, this is another opportunity to earn another $10 credit. Unfortunately though, they are only located in four cities — Chicago, New York City, San Francisco and Seattle — so most Amazon shoppers will not be able to take advantage of this particular credit.

Spend $10 through the Amazon app, get up to $20 to Amazon
a blue screen with text
Instead of purchasing through your computer, use the Amazon app to make your next purchase and you’ll receive a promotion code to get $10 off your next $20 purchase. This is valid for purchases made through the end of Prime Day, but you have through the end of the month — October 31, 2020 — to use the promotional code. You are also able to get up to two $10 off promotional codes for a total of $20 in savings.
Watch an Amazon Prime Video, get $5 to Amazon
a blue and white card with a white rectangular object on it

This is quite possibly the easiest credit you can earn. Simply watch a Prime Video — which is free with an Amazon Prime membership — and you’ll earn a $5 credit to use towards Prime Day. Your credit actually doesn’t expire for 14 days, so you can actually technically use it after Prime Day is over.

Add $30 to Amazon Cash, earn $5 in credits

Just add $30 to your Amazon Cash account and you’ll earn $5 in credits. This promotion is limited to new users and the promotional credit expires November 30, 2020.

Save money with Amex Offers

If you have an American Express credit card, check your Amex Offers in your account to see if you are eligible for two different Amazon offer. Unfortunately these are targeted, but if you are eligible, make sure to add them to your account prior to making your purchase.

  • Spend $100, get $10 back: Spend $100 or more on Amazon and receive $10 back. You can take advantage of this offer twice to earn a total of $20 back in statement credit. Tip: If you have 100 offers in your account, start adding the offer to your card so more offers will appear. The account is capped at only showing 100 at a time. This offer expires November 8, 2020.
  • Earn 5x Membership Reward points: You can earn 5x points on your eligible American Express Membership Reward credit card, up to 2,000 points maximum. This offer expires November 13, 2020.

Save money with your credit card points

Simply by using just 1 credit card point with your respective credit card, you can receive a decent savings. There are many offers that pop up throughout the year and here are all of the current offers available. Keep in mind that they are all targeted offers and you must connect your credit card to your American Express account to be eligible.

Tip: Only use a single point as you do not receive the best value when redeeming your points with Amazon. If you do not have anything to purchase at Amazon, you can always purchase a third-party merchant gift card which will trigger the savings.

Overall

We are already 36-hours into Prime Day and I’ve seen a bunch of great deals. However, I suggest not purchasing things you do not actually need — you won’t save any money that way. But for things you were eyeing to buy anyways, this is a great opportunity to grab as many deals as possible and stack with the other money-saving promotions available.
